A device (10) suitable for testing the integrity of insulation coating an electrosurgical instrument (30) is described. The device includes a test sleeve (14) and a fault detection unit (12). The test sleeve (14) is generally tubular and defines an open bore with a resilient conductive lining (52) mounted therein. The fault detection unit (12) is coupled to the conductive lining (52) such that establishment of an erroneous current path between the conductive lining (52) and an electrosurgical device (30) is detected.

Dispositif convenant à l'essai de l'intégrité d'un isolant recouvrant un instrument chirurgical. Ledit dispositif comporte une gaine d'essai et une unité de détection de défauts. Ladite gaine d'essai est généralement tubulaire et définit un alésage ouvert dans lequel une chemise conductrice élastique est montée. L'unité de détection de défauts est couplée à la chemise conductrice de sorte que l'apparition d'un trajet de courant erroné entre la chemise conductrice et un dispositif électrochirurgical soit détecté.
