ABSTRACT A bumper assembly (1) for a vehicle comprises an impact member, preferably in the form of an elongate section (2) extending transversely of the fore and aft axis of an asso- ciated vehicle, and a plurality of buffer means, preferably in the form of resiliently deformable tubes (19), wherein the member (2) is movable upon impact to engage successively one or more of the plurality of buffer means (19) in depend- ence upon the force of such impact. In the preferred embodi- ment, the elongate section (2) comprises two arcuate portions arranged to engage successively respective resiliently deform- able tubes (19), with the section (2) being resiliently mounted upon the vehicle, for actuating switch means (S) for actuating an audible and/or visual indicator that at least an initial impact has occurred.
