A novel process for the production of tertiary amines by reductive alkylation of second amine using hydrosilane and a Lewis acid is disclosed. The novel process has application in the preparationof imidazole-containing benzodiazepines, inhibitors of farnesyl protein transferase.

L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé de production d'amines tertiaires par alkylation réductrice d'amines secondaires au moyen d'hydrosilane et d'un acide de Lewis. Le nouveau procédé peut être utilisé pour la préparation de benzodiazépines contenant de l'imidazole, inhibiteurs de la farnésyl transférase.
