Processes and apparatus for the treatment of product streams from mineral processing operations, including the treatment of tailings which result from oil sand processing operations. The processes and apparatus relate to paraffinic froth treatment, including introducing an oil sands tailings comprising minerals, water and asphaltenes into a separator comprising side walls, a feedwell, an underflow outlet, an overflow outlet and a distributor apparatus for distributing the tailing upon entry into the separator. The distributor is preferably a plate that may be cone- shaped and have a particular arrangement.
