2086320 9219348 PCTABS00017 An oil/water separation system for separating oil and water components of a suspension formed in an oil/water mixture wherein oil coats solid particles in the mixture to form an oil coated nucleus that is neutrally buoyant to form the suspension. A stream of the suspension is passed through a hydrocyclone (147) wherein the oil coating is removed from the solids. The solids then pass with the water component through an underflow outlet (151) from the hydrocylone while the oil component is separately passed from an overflow outlet (145).
