ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for the controlled release, by diffusion, of a therapeutic agent which comprises a body consisting of a core formed of a mixture of a therapeutic agent and of a biocompatible polymeric material, and of a coating of biocompatible material impermeable to diffusion fluid. The therapeutic agent is defined by a plurality of solid particles having varying dimensions, the sizes of which increase from one surface of the core facing the diffusion medium to an opposite wall thus defining a mixture having a concentration gradient; this allows a diffusion of the therapeutic agent at a substantially constant rate. The device is particularly useful for the slow release of a therapeutic agent in a body fluid; it may be used as an implant for animals.
