A method is disclosed for processing a gold-bearing refractory sulfide ore (102) by main- taining the ore in a substantially oxygen free en- vironment, preferably beginning with comminu- tion (104) of the ore and ending after a desired final concentrate, enriched in sulfide minerals, is obtained by flotation (112). In one embodiment, nitrogen gas (110) is used to prevent contact be- tween the ore and air during comminution of the ore (108) and during flotation operations (114). This invention recognizes that gold in refractory sulfide ores primarily occurs in refractory aurifer- ous sulfides, which arc typically the most difficult sulfide species in the ores to float. By reducing the exposure of those refractory auriferous sulfides to oxygen gas during flotation, flotation recovery is enhanced in the form of a flotation concentrate (116). A flotation tail (118) is also obtained from the process.
L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement d'un minerai (102) sulfuré réfractaire contenant de l'or par placement du minerai dans un environnement essentiellement exempt d'oxygène, le traitement commençant de préférence par une fragmentation (104) du minerai et se terminant après l'obtention par flottation (112) d'un concentré final voulu, enrichi en minéraux sulfurés. Dans un mode de réalisation, on utilise de l'azote (110) gazeux pour éviter un contact entre le minerai et l'air pendant la fragmentation du minerai (108) et pendant le procédé (114) de flottation. Cette invention tient compte du fait que l'or présent dans des minerais sulfurés réfractaires se trouve d'abord dans des sulfures aurifères réfractaires, qui représentent précisément parmi les minerais les espèces de sulfures les plus difficiles à faire flotter. En réduisant l'exposition de ces sulfures aurifères réfractaires au gaz oxygène pendant le flottation, on améliore le produit récupéré après la flottation sous la forme d'un concentré (116) de flottation.
