A process for making parts from titanium or a titanium alloy is disclosed. The process includes the step of preparing an intermediate form of titanium or a titanium alloy. The intermediate form is then solution heat treated under conditions of temperature and time that are selected to produce a desired level of strength when the titanium or titanium alloy part is subsequently age hardened. The solution treated intermediate form is then thermomechanically formed into a desired part or a preform for a desired part. The part or preform is then age- hardened under conditions of temperature and time that are selected to produced the desired level of strength in the finished part.
L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'éléments à partir de titane ou d'alliage de titane. Ledit procédé consiste à préparer une forme intermédiaire de titane ou d'alliage de titane. La forme intermédiaire est ensuite thermotraitée par mise en solution dans des conditions de température et de temps qui sont sélectionnées afin de produire un niveau souhaité de résistance lorsque l'élément en titane ou en alliage de titane est ultérieurement durci par vieillissement. La forme intermédiaire traitée par mise en solution est alors thermomécaniquement formée en un élément souhaité ou en une préforme d'un élément souhaité. L'élément ou la préforme est enfin durci par vieillissement dans des conditions de température et de temps qui sont sélectionnés pour produire le niveau souhaité de résistance dans l'élément fini.
