2109094 9218169 PCTABS00016 Emulsions for intravenous administration based on lipophilic iodized and/or bromated substances with emulsifiers and containing derivatives of cyclopenta-phenanthrene, wherein the weight ratio between emulsifier and derivative in the emulsion is between 10:1 and 1:2. These emulsions are intended for use as X-ray contrast agent, particularly for visibilizing the presence of tumours, metastases and the like in liver and spleen. The derivative of cyclopenta-phenanthrene is preferably cholesterol, phytosterol, sitosterol, sigmasterol and/or campesterol. The invention also relates to a method for preparing the emulsion and to the use of the emulsion in the preparation of an X-ray contrast medium for computed chromatographic examinations.
