A musical stringed instrument is known to have a fretted neck or body (guitar, banjo) or fretless neck or body (violin, cello). In this invention, the instrument has an ability to instantly convert from fretted to fretless and back again at will. This ability is accomplished by a mechanism integrated into the neck and/or body.
