ABSTRACT A medical/body fluid transfer apparatus and method. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a reservoir for containing a supply of fluid, a substantially compressible tubing conduit for interconnecting the reservoir and a patient, and a compression clip which is appropriately mounted on the tubing conduit for selective occlusive engagement thereof and contemporaneous sliding movement relative thereto. In this regard, the compression clip includes an aperture having first and second interconnected portions. The first portion is sized so as to not occlusively engage the tubing conduit, whereas the second aperture portion is sized to occlude the tubing conduit when positioned therein. Consequently, when it is desirable to occlude the tubing conduit to perform a subsequent process regarding fluid within the tubing, such as blood sampling or the mixing of a harvested blood component(s) within the reservoir, the compression clip may be manipulated by the operator into occlusive engagement, which is thereafter maintained without the application of external forces to the clip. The compression clip may then be slidably moved along the tubing conduit in the direction of the reservoir to progressively occlude the tubing conduit by compression and thereby displace fluid into the reservoir and/or allow fluid to flow into the tubing conduit downstream of the compression clip. Once the subsequent processing is performed (e.g., blood sampling or -43- mixing of harvested blood components), the compression clip may be manipulated to release the occlusion.
