A methodology for facilitating the identification, authentication or quality control of packaged products is described comprising a marking and an authentication phase. In the marking phase the method involves obtaining an analytical specification, and for example an analytical spectrum, of a reference chemical composition for the product; and recording the data on a machine readable data storage means provided in direct mechanical association with the packaging thereof, and for example being incorporated into or onto or as a part of such packaging. The authentication phase comprises applying a suitable data reader to the data storage means to read the recorded data and reconstruct the recorded analytical specification; chemically analysing a sample of the product to obtain a measured analytical specification; comparing the measured and recorded readings within predetermined tolerance limits. A system to perform the method and a product marked accordingly are also described.
L'invention concerne une méthodologie permettant de faciliter l'identification, l'authentification ou le contrôle de la qualité de produits emballés et consistant en des phases de marquage et d'authentification. Dans la phase de marquage, le procédé consiste à obtenir une spécification analytique et, par exemple, un spectre analytique, d'une composition chimique de référence pour le produit; et à enregistrer les données sur des moyens de stockage lisibles par machine et associés mécaniquement à l'emballage de celui-ci et, par exemple, incorporés dans ou sur un tel emballage ou comme partie de celui-ci. La phase d'authentification consiste à appliquer un lecteur de données approprié sur les moyens de stockage de données, aux fins de lecture des données enregistrées et de reconstruction de la spécification analytique enregistrée; à analyser sur le plan chimique un échantillon du produit, de manière à obtenir une spécification analytique mesurée; à comparer les lectures mesurées et enregistrées dans des limites de tolérance prédéterminées. L'invention concerne enfin un système permettant de mettre en oeuvre le procédé et un produit marqué selon celui-ci.
