The invention relates to a method for detecting an infectious prion protein exhibiting an improved sensitivity. For this purpose, a heterologue non- pathogenic protease-sensitive prio protein is added to an examined sample. When the infectious prion protein PrPSc is present in said sample, the prion protein is transformed into protease-resistant prion aggregates by an asymmetric spontaneous interaction.
