ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A residual liquid detection apparatus for detecting whether or not liquid remains at the bottle bottom of a transparent bottle includes a light source for irradiating light that contain visible light and infrared rays onto the bottle bottom of the transparent bottle, two photoelectric conversion sensors for receiving light that has passed the bottle bottom from the light source, an optical filter which only passes the infrared rays and is placed in front of the light receiving surface of one of the photoelectric conversion sensors, and a circuit for comparing outputs from the two photoelectric conversion sensors and delivering a signal when a difference between the outputs exceeds a predetermined value.
