A heart monitoring apparatus and method is disclosed wherein an electrocardiograph signal is obtained from a patient and processed to enhance the salient features and to suppress noise. A plurality n of values representative of the features of the electrocardiograph signal are generated and used in a Kohonen neural network to generate an n dimensional vector. This vector is compared with a stored plurality m of n dimensional reference vectors defining an n dimensional Kohonen feature map to determine the proximity of the vector to the reference vectors. If it is determined by the Kohonen neural network that the vector is within or beyond a threshold range of the reference vectors a signal is output which can be used to initiate an event such as the generation of an alarm or the storage of ECG data.
La présente invention concerne un moniteur cardiaque et son procédé d'utilisation, qui consiste à obtenir d'un patient un signal d'un électrocardiographe dont le traitement permet de mettre en relief les principales caractéristiques et de supprimer le bruit. Une pluralité n de valeurs représentatives des caractéristiques du signal d'électrocardiographe sont créées et utilisées dans un réseau neuronal de Kohonen pour produire un vecteur dimensionnel n. Ce vecteur est comparé à une pluralité m de n vecteurs de référence dimensionnels définissant un prototype dimensionnel n de Kohonen, dans le but de déterminer la proximité du vecteur par rapport aux vecteurs de référence. Si le réseau neuronal de Kohonen indique que le vecteur se situe à l'intérieur d'une fourchette seuil de vecteurs de référence, ou au-dessous de cette fourchette, un signal est alors émis, qui entraîne une action telle que le déclenchement d'une alarme ou la mise en mémoire des données de l'électrocardiographe.
