A programmable electronic access control system with "on line" updating without cables has at least one communication centre or node (1), which is connected to the central control unit (2) via a standard industrial communication network (3), and includes transceiver means which are used to wirelessly connect, via radio-frequency channels (4), each communication centre to at least one access element (5) in which the user presents the access certificate (6).
