Methods are provided whereby an N-C-N compound is regenerated from a product of a sulfur scavenging reaction, in which said N-C-N compound removes a sulfur atom from a sulfur compound, to form the original N-C-N compound. The N-C-N compound is represented by formula (I). The product includes a hereto compound having sulfur, carbon and nitrogen atoms in its backbone. In one embodiment, the product is muted with (1) a nitrogen compound represented by formula (II) and (2) an alkaline compound selected from alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and transition metal compounds, to form a solution, slurry or dispersion. The hereto compound is reacted with the nitrogen compound in the presence of the alkaline compound, such that a sulfur atom of the hetero compound is replaced by a nitrogen atom of the nitrogen compound. If necessary, the pH of the solution may be adjusted to about 8 to about 13 to facilitate the reaction. In alternative embodiments, the product also includes an amine complex. The nitrogen atom being substituted for the sulfur atom in the hetero compound may be obtained from either the nitrogen compound or the amine complex.

Le composé N-C-Nest représenté par la formule (I). Le produit contient un composé hétéro contenant des atomes de soufre, de carbone et d'azote dans son ossature. Dans une forme d'exécution, le produit est mélangé avec (1) un composé azote représenté par la formule (II) et (2)un composé alcalin choisi parmi les composés de métaux alcalins, des métaux alcalino-terreux et des métaux de transition, pour former une solution, une pâte épaisse ou une dispersion. On fait réagir le composé hétéro avec le composé azoté en présence du composé alcalin de telle sorte qu'un atome de soufre du composé hétéro soit remplacé par un atome d'azote du composé azoté. Lorsque celaest nécessaire, le pH de la solution peut être ajusté entre environ 8 et environ 13, pour faciliter la réaction. Dans d'autres formes d'exécution, le produit comprend également un complexe d'amine. L'atome d'azote venant remplacer l'atome de soufre dans le composé hétéro peut être obtenu soit à partir du composé azoté, soit à partir du complexe d'amine.
