ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Methanol is produced from hydrocarbonaceous feedstock by a process which involves catalytically partially oxidizing the hydrocarbonaceous feedstock under temperature and steam conditions to produce a synthesis gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide without producing free carbon; reacting the hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide under methanol producing conditions; and recovering methanol.
