An apparatus and method are provided for detecting via a mobile station a cell in which the mobile station is located in order to initiate communication in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) system including a plurality of base stations transmitting signal with a pseudo-random noise (PN) code to the mobile station. The apparatus and method include receiving the signal from the base station and performing fast Fourier transform (FFT) on the received signal; generating a PN code for comparison with a base station's PN code included in the signal; and detecting a cell where the mobile station is located by searching for a PN code synchronized in the FFT-processed signal using the generated PN code.

L'invention concerne un appareil et une méthode pour détecter, par une station mobile, une cellule dans laquelle la station mobile est située de manière à établir une communication dans un système d'accès à multiplexage fréquentiel optique orthogonal comprenant une pluralité de stations de base transmettant un signal doté d'un code de bruit pseudo-aléatoire (PN) à une station mobile. L'appareil et la méthode de l'invention permettent de recevoir le signal provenant de la station de base et d'effectuer une transformation de Fourier rapide (FTT) sur le signal reçu; de générer un code PN pour une comparaison avec un code PN de station de base intégré au signal; et de détecter une cellule dans laquelle la station mobile est située, par une recherche d'un code PN synchronisé dans le signal traité par FFT au moyen du code PN généré.
