Methods for prophylactically or therapeutically treating severe pneumonia involve administration of tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) or a TFPI analog to patients suffering from or at risk of developing this condition. The methods involve the use of continuous intravenous infusion of TFPI or a TFPI analog, preferably at low doses to avoid adverse side effects.

L'invention concerne des procédés qui permettent le traitement prophylactique ou thérapeutique de la pneumonie aiguë, par l'administration d'un inhibiteur de la voie facteur tissulaire ("tissue factor pathway inhibitor" ou TFPI) ou d'un analogue du TPFI à des patients souffrant ou susceptibles de souffrir d'une pneumonie aiguë. Les procédés de l'invention consistent à utiliser un TPFI ou un analogue du TPFI en perfusion intraveineuse continue, de préférence à faibles doses afin d'éviter les effets secondaires indésirables.
