A gas scrubber includes a tank having a bottom, a top and a peripheral sidewall. A gas inlet is positioned adjacent to the bottom of the tank. A gas outlet is positioned adjacent to the top of the tank. A contact plate is provided having a plurality of openings. The contact plate is disposed in the tank between the gas inlet and the gas outlet. The contact plate is adapted to promote a better interface of gas with the liquid reagent by slowing the passage of gas between the gas inlet and the gas outlet.
