A presently-preferred process for manufacturing a connecting rod (10) comprises placing a heated preform (11) suitable for being formed into the connecting rod into a closed forge die (50,70), and forging the preform in a first forging operation while the preform is at a forging temperature to form an as-forged connecting rod (10a,10b) having vertical flash (26,27) extending therefrom. The presently-preferred process further comprises placing the as- forged connecting rod in a second forge die (60,80) while the as-forged connecting rod is at a temperature substantially equal to the forging temperature, and forging the vertical flash (26,27) in a second forging operation. The presently-preferred process also comprises removing the as- forged connecting rod from the second forge die, and machining the as-forged connecting rod to predetermined dimensions.
Selon l'invention, un procédé préféré de fabrication d'une bielle (10) consiste à placer une préforme chauffée (11) destinée à former une bielle dans une matrice de forge fermée (50, 70), puis à forger cette préforme en une première opération de forgeage pendant que la préforme se trouve à une température de forgeage, d'où la formation d'une bielle brute de forge (10a, 10b) comportant une bavure verticale (26, 27) faisant saillie sur celle-ci. Ce procédé consiste en outre à placer la bielle brute de forge dans une seconde matrice de forge (60, 80) pendant que cette bielle brute de forge se trouve à une température sensiblement égale à la température de forgeage, puis à forger la bavure verticale (26, 27) au cours d'une seconde opération de forgeage. Ledit procédé consiste enfin à extraire la bielle brute de forge de la seconde matrice de forge, puis à usiner cette bielle brute de forge selon des dimensions prédéterminées.
