A firestain and tarnish-resistant ternary alloy of silver, copper and germanium contains from more than 93.5 wt% to 95.5 wt% Ag, from 0.5 to 3 wt% Ge and the remainder, apart from incidental ingredients (if any), impurities and grain refiner, copper. In order to further protect an article made from the alloy, it may be surface treated with an alkanethiol, alkyl thioglycollate, dialkyl sulphide or dialkyl disulphide.

L'invention concerne un alliage ternaire d'argent, de cuivre et de germanium, résistant à la ternissure et à l'oxydation, contenant plus de 93,5 à 95,5 % en poids d'Ag, de 0,5 à 3 % en poids de Ge, le reste étant constitué d'impuretés, d'agent d'affinage et de cuivre, en plus d'éventuels ingrédients accidentels. Pour protéger davantage un article réalisé dans ledit alliage, ledit article peut être traité en surface avec alcanethiol, alkyl thioglycolate, sulfure de dialkyl ou disulfure de dialkyl.
