A seat is disclosed which has a base plate (12) upon which is mounted a cushioning member (16). The base plate (12) and cushioning member (16) have an upwardly inclined portion (12a, 18). A cushion member (20) is mounted on the cushion member (16) and has side parts (22) so as to provide a bowl-shaped or curved support region towards the rear of the seat. A horizontal flat portion extends from an intermediate point (P1) to a second intermediate point (P2) which coincides with a mid point (26) of the front edge of the cushion member (20). The cushioning material (20) can be mechanically altered by providing cuts orgy notches (60) so as to decrease the effective density of the cushioning material (16). An upper upholstery or cushioning member (80) extends completely over the upper surface of the seat.
