An endoprosthesis for the internal support of hollow organs in living creatures comprises a flexible tubular mesh structure (2) with open ends (4) and an elastic tubular covering (6), whereby the mesh structure (2) is composed of circumferentially extending mesh rows (8, 8'), consisting of lined up spaces (12, 12') enclosed by mesh material (10). In the region of an open end (4) of the mesh structure (2) the covering (6) comprises an embedding portion (14), enclosing at least partially the mesh structure (21, and a projecting portion (16), following next to the embedding portion (14) and projecting over the open end (4). By this means a hollow organ is protected against pointed or sharp-edged terminating parts projecting from the open end (4), specifically when the endoprosthesis is moved within the hollow organ by the peristaltic of the hollow organ or by removing of the endoprosthesis from the hollow organ. Besides that the projecting portion (16) provides a target area for a gripping device when an implanted endoprosthesis is intended to be repositioned.
