A device (10) for incising a stenosis in the vasculature of a patient includes a plurality of blades (28A, 28B, 28C) mounted on a resilient base member.(26) The blades (28a, 28b, 28c) are arranged in a pattern to allow for relative movement between adjacent blades. Specifically, at least one end portion of each blade is juxtaposed with an end portion of the next closest blade. The base member, (26) in turn, is mounted on the external surface of an inflatable angioplasty balloon (14). When the balloon (14) is inserted into the vasculature of a patient, positioned across a stenosis and subsequently inflated, the individually moveable blades (28a, 28b, 28c) form an effective cutting edge that conforms to the surface of the stenosis to effectively allow the stenosis to be incised to a substantially uniform depth.
La présente invention concerne un dispositif (10) permettant d'inciser une sténose au niveau du système vasculaire d'un patient. Ledit dispositif comprend une pluralité de lames (28A, 28B, 28C) montées sur un élément de base flexible (26). Les lames (28a, 28b, 28c) sont disposées de manière à permettre un déplacement relatif entre des lames adjacentes. Plus particulièrement, au moins une partie d'extrémité de chaque lame est juxtaposée à une partie d'extrémité de la lame suivante la plus proche. A son tour, l'élément de base (26) est monté sur la surface extérieure d'un ballonnet d'angioplastie gonflable (14). Lorsque le ballonnet (14) est inséré dans le système vasculaire d'un patient, placé à travers une sténose et subséquemment gonflé, les lames individuellement mobiles (28a, 28b, 28c) forment un bord de coupe efficace qui épouse la surface de la sténose pour permettre d'inciser efficacement la sténose sur une profondeur sensiblement uniforme.
