The invention concerns a device for self-controlled breathing by a person for assisting monitoring of a radiation therapy or imaging unit comprising means (2) for acquiring a current metabolic volume signal, a signal processing unit (3) and a communication interface (4, 8). The device further comprises sensing means (10) adapted to detect regular breathing at rest whereby it causes the communication interface (4, 8) to communicate a signal representing a predetermined setpoint value.
