The invention concerns a thermal protection for an electrical conductor sheathed in an electrically insulating coating (2, 3) and used to conduct, for variable time intervals, a current in high temperature external conditions, likely to damage the electrically insulating coating. The invention is characterised in that said protection consists of at least one layer (4) of composite refractory material produced by combining refractory fibres and a compatible refractory binder (5), so as to constitute a heat shield capable of supporting external temperatures ranging between 500 and 1600 ·C. The refractory fibres are produced in the form of woven or non-woven ribbons or in pasty form. External to the layer (4) more or less dense fire tiles (6, 8) can be provided. The invention is useful in particular for protecting conductor pipes in large inductors in electrothermic industrial furnaces.
L'invention concerne une protection thermique pour un conducteur électrique couvert d'une couche (2, 3) électriquement isolante et amené à conduire, pendant des durées variables, un courant dans des conditions extérieures de températures élevées, aptes à endommager la couche électriquement isolante, caractérisée en ce que ladite protection est formée d'au moins une couche (4) de matériau réfractaire composite réalisée par une combinaison de fibres réfractaires et d'un liant réfractaire compatible (5), de façon à constituer un bouclier thermique pouvant supporter des températures extérieures comprises entre 500 et 1600 ~C. Les fibres réfractaires sont mises en oeuvre sous forme de rubans tissés ou non tissés ou sous forme d'une pâte. Extérieurement à la couche (4) on peut prévoir des tuiles réfractaires (6, 8) plus ou moins denses. L'invention s'applique en particulier à la protection des tubes conducteurs des gros inducteurs des fours industriels en électrothermie.
