ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLUSURE The invention concerns the field of heatable insulating glass units of at least two panes of glass held together at a distance by a spacer with the interspace filled with gas or evacuated and in particular the invention concerns a spacer for such glass units. The glass units include a resistance heating element on one surface of a pane of glass facing the interspace plus terminals to supply an electric current to the resistance heating element. The spacer consists of at least two parallel hollow metal spacer sections arranged with a distance between them with the interspace between the hollow sections being filled with a plastic that adheres to the surface of the side walls of the hollow sections. The plastic provides both thermal insulation and electrical insulation. The outside surface of the plastic forms a plastic web and is covered with a vapor-impermeable layer. A glass unit using this spacer has good airtightness retention characteristics, good water vapour impermeability characteristics and good electrical insulating property characteristics.
