The instant invention relates to stable free nitroxyl radicals of formula (I) at least one of the substituents R is -O. and the others are hydrogen or OH; X is -NR1R2, wherein R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, C1-C18alkyl or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bound from a 5 or 6 membered ring which may be further interrupted by an O atom. Further subjects of the invention are an oxidation process for alcohols to aldehydes or ketones or to carboxylic acids in the presence of a compound of formula (I) and the use of stable free nitroxyl radicals of formula (I) as oxidation catalysts.

Cette invention se rapporte à des radicaux nitroxyle libres stables, représentés par la formule (I), dans laquelle au moins l'un des substituants R représente -O. et les autres substituants représentent hydrogène ou OH; X représente -NR¿1?R¿2?, où R¿1? et R¿2? représentent séparément hydrogène, alkyle C¿1?-C¿18? ou forment, avec l'atome d'azote auquel ils sont liés, un cycle à 5 ou 6 éléments qui peut être en outre interrompu par un atome O. Cette invention concerne en outre un procédé d'oxydation pour transformer des alcools en aldéhydes ou en cétones ou en acides carboxyliques, en présence d'un composé représenté par la formule (I), et l'utilisation de radicaux nitroxyle libres stables de formule (I) comme catalyseurs d'oxydation.
