An optical fiber having a refractive index distribution structure composed of a core and a two-layer clad including an innermost layer and an outermost layer satisfying the inequalities 0.8% <= .DELTA.1 <= 1.3% and -0,7% <= .DELTA.2 <= -0.4% (.DELTA.1 where 1 is the relative refractive -index difference of the core to the outermost layer of the clad, .DELTA.2 is the relative refractive-index difference of the innermost layer of the clad to the outermost layer of the clad, wherein the optical fiber also satisfies the inequalities -20 <=D < 0, -0.1 <= S < 0, and 0 < (D/S) <= 200 in a specific predetermined wavelength band having a band width of more than 20 nm in the 1.5 µm band where D (ps/nm/km) is the wavelength dispersion at a specific wavelength in the 1.5 µm band and S (ps/nm2/km) is the dispersion slope.

L'invention concerne une fibre optique dont la structure de répartition de l'indice de réfraction est composée d'un noyau, et d'une gaine à deux couches constituée d'une couche intérieure et d'une couche extérieure. La fibre optique satisfait à la relation d'inégalité 0,8 % <= .DELTA.1 <= 1,3 % et -0,7 % <= .DELTA.2 <= -0,4 % (.DELTA.1 étant la différence relative de l'indice de réfraction du noyau et de la couche extérieure de la gaine; .DELTA.2 étant la différence relative de l'indice de réfraction de la couche intérieure de la gaine et de la couche extérieure de la gaine). La fibre optique satisfait, d'autre part, à la relation d'inégalité -20 <= D < 0, -0,1 <= S < 0, et 0 < (D/S) <= 200 dans une bande de longueur d'onde spécifique préétablie présentant une largeur de bande supérieure à 20 nm dans la bande des 1,5 µm (D (ps/nm/km) étant la dispersion de la longueur d'onde à une longueur d'onde spécifique dans la bande des 1,5 µm; S (ps/nm?2¿/km) étant la pente de dispersion).
