The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for improving various plant growth characteristics by modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a GRP (Growth-Related Protein). The present invention also concerns plants having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a GRP, which plants have improved growth characteristics relative to corresponding wild type plants or other control plants. The invention also provides constructs useful in the methods of the invention. The GRP may be one of the following: Extensin Receptor-Like Kinase (ERLK), F- Box WD40 (FBXW) polypeptide, RAN-Binding Protein (RANBP), Golden2-like Transcription Factor (GLK), REV delta homeodomain leucine zipper domain polypepetide, CLE protein, and Seed Yield Regulator (SYR) protein.
La présente invention, qui se rapporte généralement au domaine de la biologie moléculaire, concerne un procédé qui permet d'améliorer diverses caractéristiques de la croissance végétale en modulant l'expression chez une plante d'un acide nucléique codant une protéine liée à la croissance ("Growth-Related Protein" ou GPR). L'invention concerne également des plantes présentant une expression modulée d'un acide nucléique codant une GPR, plantes qui possèdent des caractéristiques de croissance améliorées par rapport aux plantes de type sauvage correspondantes ou à d'autres plantes témoins. L'invention porte également sur des constructions utilisées selon les procédés précités. La GPR peut être l'une des protéines suivantes: la ERLK ("Extensin Receptor-Like Kinase"), le FBXW ("F- Box WD40 polypeptide), la RANBP ("RAN-Binding Protein"), le GLK ("Golden2-like Transcription Factor"), le polypeptide de domaine leucine zipper à homéodomaine delta REV, la protéine CLE et la protéine SYR ("Seed Yield Regulator").
