The invention relates to a gas discharge lamp (1') for a dielectrically impeded discharge, in which a discharge voltage is adjusted in a location- dependent manner, for example by way of a discharge distance (6') which can be varied along the length of the lamp (1'). In this way, for example strip- shaped displays or quantitative brake warning lights can be provided.
