SLIDE PLATE FIFTH WHEEL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A slide type fifth wheel hitch assembly wherein the slide brackets mounting the hitch are supported by and on a pair of parallel, laterally spaced, fore-to-aft elongated base plates having a transverse forward tie bar having its ends welded to the tops of the base plates and extending to the rack bars to form front stops, and having a transverse rear tie bar having its ends welded to the bottoms of the base plates.
