The present invention relates to antimicrobial compositions which provide enhanced immediate as well as residual anti-viral and antibacterial efficacy. The antimicrobial compositions of the present invention provide previously unseen residual effectiveness against Gram negative bacteria, Gram positive bacteria, and viruses, fungi, and improved immediate germ reduction upon use. These compositions comprise: a) a safe and effective amount of pyroglutamic acid; b) a safe and effective amount of a metal salt; and c) a dermatologically acceptable carrier for the acid and salt wherein said composition has a pH of from about 1 to about 7. The invention further relates to methods of use for the present compositions as well as antimicrobial products which incorporate the compositions.
L'invention concerne des compositions antimicrobiennes qui présentent une efficacité antivirale et antibactérienne intermédiaire et résiduelle accrue. Ces compositions antimicrobiennes possèdent une efficacité résiduelle inégalée jusqu'à présent contre les bactéries à Gram négatif, les bactéries à Gram négatif, les virus, les champignons, et assurent une réduction des germes intermédiaire améliorée, après usage. Ces compositions comprennent : a) une quantité sûre et efficace d'acide pyroglutamique ; b) une quantité sûre et efficace d'un sel métallique ; et c) un excipient dermatologiquement tolérable, pour l'acide et le sel. Cette composition présente un pH compris entre environ 1 et 7. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés d'utilisation desdites compositions ainsi que des produits antimicrobiens contenant ces dernières.
