Polyquaternaries which are obtained by reacting at least one alkyldialkanolamine with a mixture of acids comprising at least one fatty acid and at least one dicarboxylic acid are disclosed. The inventive quaternaries have improved properties, such as softness dispersibility and high biodegradeability; therefore, the inventive esterquats are highly useful as a component in rinse cycle fabric softeners, dryer sheets, hair conditioners, paper debonders and other applications in which a high degree of softness is required.
