The invention provides a method for the treatment and prevention of urinary incontinence in mammals, e.g., human males and females, especially nonpregnant female mammals, by administering a nitric oxide synthase substrate and/or nitric oxide donor, alone or in combination with an estrogenic agent and/or a progestational substance, with or without supplementation with an alpha- adrenergic agonist, beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent, cholinergic- receptor blocking compound or a cholinergic-receptor-stimulating drug, as well as pharmaceutical compositions useful in practicing the methods of this invention.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de traitement et de prévention de l'incontinence urinaire chez des hommes et des femmes, notamment chez des femmes qui ne sont pas en état de grossesse, ce procédé consistant à administrer un substrat de synthase d'oxide nitrique et/ou un donneur d'oxide nitrique, seul ou en combinaison avec un agent oestrogénique et/ou une substance progestative, avec ou sans apport complémentaire d'anagoniste alpha-adrénergique, d'un inhibiteur du récepteur bêta-adrénergique, un composé inhibant le récepteur cholinergique ou un médicament stimulant le récepteur cholinergique. Cette invention se rapporte également aux compositions pharmaceutiques utilisées dans la mise en oeuvre de ces procédés.
