A powder coating system (10) particularly adapted for coating large objects such as automotive and other vehicle bodies comprises a spray booth (12) having a manual/robotic spraying area (46) for the appli- cation of powder to the inner door flanges (33) and other hard to reach areas of the vehi- cle body (32) using manually or rotatably operated powder dis- pensers (49), and an automatic spraying area (48) wherein the remainder of the vehicle body is coated using automatically ma- nipulated powder dispensers (50). A powder collection and recovery system (40) is associat- ed with the spray booth (12) which includes removable car- tridge filters (102) arranged in V-shaped filter banks within gowder collection chambers (74) beneath the floor (16) of the booth (12), a system (124, 144) for the transfer of powder collected in the powder collection chambers (74) to hoppers (152) located exteriorly of the booth and an air exhaust system (67, 68, 164) for equalizing the negative pressure within clean air chambers (90) which receive clean air after filtering by the cartridge filters.
