A device for treating uterine fibroids comprises an elongated sheath (15) sized for insertion into uterine arteries (12) via an incision in the vaginal fornix (11) , the sheath including a sheath lumen extending from a first sheath opening formed in a proximal end of the sheath to a second sheath opening formed in a distal end (23) of the sheath and a body (16) a distal end of which is connected to the proximal end of the sheath, the body including a body lumen extending therethrough from a first body opening at a proximal end (25) of the body and a second body opening at the distal end thereof, the second body lumen communicating with the sheath lumen in combination with a hemostatic valve controlling the flow of blood through the body lumen. A method for treating a uterine fibroid by forming an incision in a vaginal fornix is also presented.
L'invention concerne une méthode de traitement d'un fibrome utérin, consistant à pratiquer une incision dans un trigone vaginal pour exposer un premier vaisseau sanguin alimentant le fibrome, à pratiquer une ouverture dans le premier vaisseau sanguin et à insérer un introducteur dans le premier vaisseau sanguin par l'ouverture, tout en déplaçant un cathéter jusqu'à une position désirée dans le premier vaisseau sanguin au moyen de l'introducteur, et à introduire un agent occlusif dans le premier vaisseau sanguin au moyen du cathéter pour bloquer le flux sanguin dans le premier vaisseau sanguin. Un dispositif de traitement des fibromes sanguins comprend une enveloppe allongée d'une dimension adaptée pour être insérée dans les artères utérines par une incision dans le trigone evaginal, ladite enveloppe comprenant une lumière s'étendant d'une première ouverture formée au niveau d'une extrémité proximale de l'enveloppe jusqu'à une seconde ouverture formée au niveau d'une extrémité distale de l'enveloppe, et un corps dont une extrémité distale est connectée à l'extrémité proximale de l'enveloppe, le corps comprenant une lumière s'étendant d'une première ouverture au niveau d'une extrémité proximale du corps et une seconde ouverture du corps au niveau d'une extrémité distale de celui-ci, la lumière du corps communiquant avec la lumière de l'enveloppe en combinaison avec une valve hémostatique permettant de réguler le flux sanguin dans la lumière du corps.
