The invention in the main relates to items of jewellery, wherein gem stones are set in malleable material such as gold sheets to form lockets and the like. Setting heretofore has been by hand by skilled craftsmen, who can work only in relatively thick material, which increases the cost of the jewellery. In the inventive method, much thinner sheet material is pressed to form a recess for the gem, and projections around the recess. The stone is placed in the recess and the assembly is pressed in a jig, which causes the projections to be deformed and form claws over the stone edges setting it in the sheet. The invention also provides an item of jewellery, and a machine for carrying out the method.
L'invention concerne, de façon générale, des articles de bijouterie, dans lesquels des pierres précieuses sont enchâssées dans un matériau malléable, tel que des feuilles d'or, afin de créer des bijoux, tels que des médaillons. L'enchâssement a été jusqu'alors réalisé à la main par des artisans spécialisés ne pouvant travailler que sur du matériau relativement épais, ce qui augmente les coûts de la bijouterie. Ce procédé consiste à exercer une pression sur une feuille de matériau beaucoup plus mince, de manière à créer un évidement pour la pierre précieuse et des saillies autour de l'évidement. On place la pierre dans l'évidement et on comprime l'ensemble dans un étau, ce qui provoque la déformation des saillies et crée des griffes autour des bords de la pierre afin de fixer cette dernière dans la feuille. L'invention concerne également un article de bijouterie et une machine servant mettre ce procédé en application.
