A tin immersion composition of matter is disclosed comprising a compound comprising divalent tin ion, a compound comprising fluoride ion, and a compound comprising acid hydrogen ion. A process for treating an aluminum- copper or an aluminum-silicon alloy to improve the adhesion of metal layers to the alloy is also disclosed comprising contacting the alloy with an acidic tin immersion composition to produce a tin immersion coating on the alloy, and contacting the tin immersion coating with an etchant to substantially remove the tin immersion coating and produce an etched alloy surface.

L'invention décrit une composition de matière pour immersion dansde l'étain comprenant un composé formé d'un ion étain bivalent, un composé comprenant un ion fluorure et un composé comprenant un ion d'hydrogène acide. Elle décrit également un procédé pour traiter un alliage aluminium-cuivre ou aluminium-silicium afin d'améliorer l'adhérence de couches métalliques à l'alliage, consistant entre autres à mettre l'alliage en contact avec une composition acidifère d'immersion dans de l'étain pour former sur l'alliage une couche de revêtement par immersion dans l'étain, et à mettre ladite couche de revêtement en contact avec un réactif pour pratiquement enlever ladite couche et obtenir une surface d'alliage décapée.
