The present invention relates to the field of the distinction between bacterial meningitis and viral meningitis. It relates in particular to an in vitro method for detecting the presence of bacterial meningitis, which comprises determining the concentration of procalcitonin present in a test blood sample and of proteins present in a test cerebrospinal fluid sample, and comparing the concentrations thus determined to the concentration of procalcitonin and of proteins present in a reference sample or to a reference value. It also relates to a kit comprising means for detecting procalcitonin and proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid, and to the use thereof for the production of a diagnostic tool for bacterial meningitis.

La présente invention se rapporte au domaine de la distinction des méningites bactériennes et virales. Elle concerne particulièrement un procédé in vitro de détection de la présence d'une méningite bactérienne comprenant la détermination de la concentration de procalcitonine présente dans un échantillon sanguin test et de protéines présentes dans un échantillon de liquide céphalorachidien test et la comparaison des concentrations ainsi déterminées à la concentration de procalcitonine et de protéines présentes dans un échantillon de référence ou à une valeur de référence. Elle concerne également un kit comprenant des moyens de détection de la procalcitonine et des protéines du liquide céphalorachidien et sonutilisation pour la fabrication d'un outil de diagnostic de la méningite bactérienne.
