The present invention is a retrievable ice anchor for securing a portable shelter such as those used for ice fishing, to the ice surface of a body of water. The anchor is suspended vertically from an offset connector and lowered through a hole in the ice such as that used for fishing. Once lowered through the hole, the user pulls up on a connector. In a single connector embodiment, the connector is attached offset from the bar's center of gravity. When pulled up, one projection on the bar engages the underside of the ice and rotates to engage and anchor the bar. In a two connector embodiment, pulling on a second connector attached to the center of gravity of the anchor causes it to balance and thus engage the ice on either side of the hole. In either case the actuating connector is attached to a rope connected to the shelter so that the tension in the rope maintains tension in the actuating connector, keeping the anchor engaged in the hole. The anchor is readily retrieved by removing tension from the actuating connector causing the anchor to sink. The offset connector can be pulled upwardly, causing the anchor bar to depend vertically and be easily retrieved from the hole.
