A vehicle-top carrier for articles, such as skis and other equipment, has a housing with opposite ends which are shaped symmetrically with respect to a central transverse axis. The opposite ends are also tapered to form symmetrical drag-reducing profiles. The housing has a recloseable opening along one of its longitudinal sides. The housing can be mounted atop the vehicle with the recloseable opening on either side of the vehicle, while always keeping one of the tapered ends pointing aerodynamically toward the vehicle front.
