ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mop head for cleaning surfaces sensitive to scratching, includes a plastic support plate with opposing -faces and multiple openings between the faces. A connector extends rearwardly from the support plate to permit attachment to a telescopic pole. A pair of open-celled sponge portions overlay the opposing plate faces. Each sponge portion has a periphery that extends beyond the forward, rear and lateral edges of the support plate. The peripheries of the sponge portions are bonded to one another, as with an adhesive, to conceal the forward and lateral plate edges to prevent scratching. The sponges are also bonded to one another through the multiple openings to properly secure the sponge portions to the support plate and to the faces of thesupport plate.
