A method of manufacturing a read-only optical registration medium in the form of a flexible tape, comprising the following steps: (a) providing a flexible substrate (1) in the form of a tape; (b) providing an embossable registration layer (3) on the substrate (1); (c) embossing the registration layer (3) under pressure with the aid of stamper, so as to form a pattern of high and low surfacial regions (5) representing a collection of binary data; (d) providing a protective film (9) over the embossed registration layer (3). This procedure can be used to produce a novel read-only optical registration medium in the form of a flexible tape with a layered structure which successively comprises: a substrate (1); a registration layer (3); a reflective registration surface (7), in which binary data are represented by localised level-variations (5'), and a transparent, optically-smooth protective film (9), in which there is no metallic reflection layer between the substrate (1) and the registration layer (3), and in which the side (1a) of the substrate (1) remote from the registration layer (3) is rougher than the exposed surface (11) of the protective film (9).

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un support d'enregistrement optique de type lecture seule, sous forme d'une bande souple. Ce procédé se décompose en plusieurs opérations: a) Réalisation d'un substrat souple (1) sous forme de bande. b) Réalisation, sur le substrat (1), d'une couche d'enregistrement (3) par impression en relief. c) Impression en relief dans la couche (3) sous la pression d'une matrice de pressage de façon à constituer des motifs de zones superficielles (5) en creux ou en relief et représentant une suite de données en format binaire. d) Réalisation d'un film de protection (9) au-dessus de la couche d'enregistrement (3) par impression en relief. Cette procédure convient à la production d'un nouveau support d'enregistrement optique de type lecture seule, sous forme d'une bande souple dont la structure en couches comprend successivement: un substrat (1); une couche d'enregistrement (3); une face d'enregistrement réfléchissante (7), dans laquelle les données en format binaire sont représentées par des variations de niveau (5') localisées; un film de protection (9) transparent optiquement flexible. Cette bande ne comprend pas de couche réfléchissante métallique entre le substrat (1) et la couche d'enregistrement. En outre, la face (1a) du substrat (1) la plus éloignée de la couche d'enregistrement (3) est plus rugueuse que la face découverte (11) du film de protection (9).
