Disclosed is a method for characterizing the quality of a sialoglycoprotein via its isoform number I, which is calculated from the isoform distribution of the capillary electrophoretic analysis of the sialoglycoprotein, and represents a quality characteristic for the charge consistency, the stability in storage, the biological half-life time and the biological effectiveness of a therapeutic glycoprotein. In addition, uses of the method are disclosed.
