ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and a device for the application of coating color on a fiber material web are based on the principle of indirect coating color application where the coating color is first applied on the shell surface of an applicator roll and then transferred to a fiber material web. Two or several layers of coating color are applied on the shell surface of one and the same applicator roll. According to a modified embodiment, a release fluid also may be applied before application of a coating color layer, which release fluid repels the coating color but has an affinity for the material of the shell surface of the applicator roll, so that a nonproblematic release of the coated fiber material web from the shell surface of the roll will occur.
