The invention concerns a tyre (1) with radial carcass reinforcement (2) comprising a crown reinforcement (4) consisting of at least two working crown plies (41, 42) of inextensible reinforcing elements, crossed from one ply to the next forming with the circumferential direction angles ranging between 10° and 45°, at least one protective layer (44) being radially outside the working crown plies, said crown reinforcement being radially capped with a running tread (5). The tyre further comprises in each shoulder at least one layer (43) of circumferentially oriented reinforcing elements, the axially inner end of said additional layer being radially adjacent and outside relative to the radially outermost working ply (42) and said axially inner end of the additional layer being radially adjacent and inside at least part of the protective layer (44).
