SCHULTZ ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an exemplary embodiment, a computerized data terminal is equipped for on-line data communication with a remote host e.g. for the purpose of transmitting scanned bar code data during inventory, price verification, direct store delivery accounting, and the like. The data terminal may have a frontal side with a keyboard and display, or other user interface, and preferably has an underside which mates with an extended scanner module of layer configuration so as to form a unitary hand-held data capture device. The scanner may be constructed to receive a modular handle e.g. containing a power pack for the device.
